Would You Pass the Test for the Mission Field?September 28, 1997 - Would you pass the test? The story goes that a missionary candidate was being interviewed for going to the mission field. The examiner told the candidate to show up at the building at 3:00 a.m. for the interview. The room would be open. The candidate appeared at the appropriate time. The examiner however, showed up at 8:00 a.m., five hours later. The interview went something like this:
Examiner: 'First, can you spell?' Candidate: 'Yes.' Examiner: 'Please spell cat.' Candidate: 'C-a-t.' Examiner: 'Right, now let's see how you do with math. What is two times two?' Candidate: 'Four.' Examiner: 'Right again, you have passed the test, and I believe you are a fit candidate to go to the field, and will recommend you to the Board.' The candidate left perplexed, but the examiner made the following report to the Mission Board:
"I believe this young man has all the qualifications to be a missionary, and let me explain why. The testing of our faith works patience, and when patience has its finished work, we are made perfect and complete, lacking nothing, according to the Book of James. (James 1:24) Jim
